*UPDATE The doubled-GST payments were issued on November 4, 2022.
- This is the only double-GST tax credit payment that will be issued
- The payment was made as a single lump-sum amount
- This single payment covers the entire six-month period
- There will not be a second payment
- You will continue to receive your regular GST credit payments in January, 2023
- If you are eligible, but did not receive the payment, it may take up to 10 business days for processing
- If you still do not receive the payment after this time, please contact the Canada Revenue Agency
On October 18, 2022, Bill C-30 (Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 1 Targeted Tax Relief) received Royal Assent, officially doubling the Goods and Services Tax Credit for the next 6 months.
These changes will go into effect immediately for all Canadians who are eligible for the credit.
Who is eligible for this doubled-payment?
All Canadians who are currently eligible for and receiving the GST credit will automatically receive the doubled-payment.
The eligibiity criteria for the standard GST credit is:
You are considered a Canadian resident for income tax purposes the month before, and at the beginning of the month in which the Canada Revenue Agency makes a payment, and you also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- you are at least 19 years old
- you have (or had) a spouse or common-law partner
- you are (or were) a parent and live (or lived) with your child
How much money will I get?
The amounts listed in the charts below represent the additional credit amount that you will receive. Please keep in mind that this is in addition to your regular (base) total GST credit amount.

When will I get the additional money?
Eligible Canadians will automatically receive their single lump-sum payment for the total doubled amount starting in early November, 2022.
Your standard GST credits will continue to be issued separately on the fifth day of July 2022, October 2022, January 2023, and April 2023.
How do I apply for the double GST credit?
You don't have to apply. If you are eligible, and have filed your 2021 Canadian personal income tax return, you will receive the additional payment automatically.
If you are eligible but have NOT filed your 2021 return, you can still receive both payments retroactively when you do file you return.
